Scotlands first retail filling station with above ground storage tanks supplied by Highland Fuels Ltd
Highland Fuels are delighted to be supplying fuel to the community-owned Ravenspoint Fuel Station which is situated on the shore of Loch Erisort, on the beautiful Isle of Lewis.
We have been working with the Ravenspoint team since the start of their ambitious project and are thrilled that the community has got the result that they have worked so hard to achieve!
The school at Ravenspoint closed in the seventies due to the gradual de-population of the area and the co-operative acquired the school building. Over the years the co-operative, with the backing of the local residents, has turned the building into a community shop, new cafe and 14 bed hostel. But a priority, right at the top of the community's wish list was to bring a fuelling station to the area.
On Tuesday 22nd October 2013 the community's wish was granted when the new 24/7 fuelling station was officially opened. It marked a historic day for the area, as the first petrol pump ever in South Lochs was declared open by Western Isles MSP Dr Alasdair Allan. Not only can the bright blue, 12 tonne, 19,000 litre SuperVault above ground petrol storage tank be used during Ravenspoint shop hours, with the new facility offering card payment at the pump, it can also be used over the weekend!
Jim Suff, of Ledbury Welding & Engineering Ltd, who supplied the tank and petrol pump equipment, said at the opening: "I can see what a great difference it will make to the community. It's safe, environmentally sound, but the most important thing is the community will benefit and we're pleased to be a part of that."
To show Highland Fuel's continued support and commitment to the Western Isles, we have extended our '10 pence per litre off petrol and diesel' promotion to Ravenspoint's customers. Customers just need to take their Highland Fuels heating oil or tractor diesel delivery note along to Ravenspoint and claim 10 pence per litre of their next fill of petrol or diesel (maximum fill is 50 litres per delivery note).

HIGHLAND FUELS SPONSORS SCREEN MACHINE 15
"For our fifteenth year our aim was to work with a respected company with a strong presence in the 34+ communities we visit. Highland Fuels is a perfect match for Screen Machine"
- Ron Inglis, Chief Executive of Regional Screen Scotland
Highland Fuels are delighted to announce that we have sponsored Screen Machine for its 15th anniversary activities.
Screen Machine brings the latest films to remote and rural areas of Scotland. It is an 80-seat, air conditioned modern mobile cinema in a 33 tonne articulated lorry. It is equipped with state of the art 3D digital production and Dolby Digital surround sound.
George Shand, Managing Director - "Our sponsorship means Screen Machine will be able to cover even more miles and show a greater number of films to an even wider range of people in this, its 15th anniversary year.
"Last year, over 27,000 people were entertained and when we were approached to help contribute to an even more ambitious plan for this special year, it seemed such a perfect fit to give a little back to our remote customers across the Highlands and Western Islands. Screen Machine tours 25-30 communities in some extremely remote locations and each tour typically lasts 8-10 weeks. Screen Machine also appears a selected film festivals.
"Our logo is shown at the beginning of every film and we also receive an allocation of free tickets to showings which we in turn distribute to our customers."
Starting in summer 2013, the Screen Machine 15 programme will see the cinema work with Highlands and Islands schools on education initiatives while also staging one-off film events and mini pop-up film festivals which will expand the Screen Machine's regular programme.
Making a rare visit to Edinburgh, the state-of-the-art cinema parked for one day only outside the Scottish Parliament. Children from the city's Bruntsfield Primary School were welcomed aboard to enjoy a selection of specially curated short films.
Michael Russell, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, joined them to celebrate the arrival of the 80-seat cinema, before helping to launch an extensive programme of events.
These events included:
Using Screen Machine as a venue, a pilot programme of Moving Image Education activity will be delivered to teachers and young people attending primary and secondary schools in communities around the Highlands and Islands.
Three one-day film festivals will also take place during Summer 2013 in Fort William and on the islands of Mull and Arran. Each day will be devoted to special screenings and unique events. A programme of events will be announced for the Western Isles in July.
A number of new venues will be visited, ensuring the tour visits 19 Scottish islands, including the Orkney isles of Sanday, Stronsay, Westray and Hoy, plus the isles of Eigg, Rum, Coll and Tiree.
